Activated Carbon

Quality granular activated carbon from coconut shell suitable for Water, Air, Food and Beverage, Pharmaceutical and Mining applications, with the benefit of cost effectiveness, hardness, ease of handling and more importantly environment friendly because it is from a renewable source.

Granulated Charcoal

Excellent grade of granulated charcoal from mature and quality coconut shells for activated carbon production.

Charcoal Briquettes

Premium quality charcoal briquettes for household or restaurant and indoor or outdoor barbeque. Environmental friendly because it is chemical free and made from renewable source of coconut shell charcoal.

Applications

Our Activated Carbon is derived from coconut shell which is suitable for various applications with the benefits of higher adsorption capacity and surface area, hardness, and most importantly, an Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) since it is derived from a renewable source which have a lesser or reduced negative effect on the environment.

It is the silent hero in products and processes. Activated carbon is used in drinking water purification, gold recovery, food and beverage processing, odor removal, medical applications, water and air treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Activated Carbon?

Activated Carbon, which is also known as activated charcoal, is a form of carbon processed to have small, low-volume pores that increase the surface area available for physical and chemical reactions.

An activation level sufficient for useful application may be attained solely from high surface area; however, further chemical treatment often enhances adsorption properties. Activated carbon is usually derived from any carbonaceous material. At BF Industries, Inc. We use coconut shell charcoal as it is know for superior hardness and microporosity.

What is the difference between charcoal, activated charcoal and activated carbon?

Charcoal is a raw material for activated carbon. Charcoal is made by pyrolysis or by heating organic material to a temperature of about 500°C in reduced oxygen level.

With activated charcoal and activated carbon, there is no difference between the two. Both terms can be used interchangeably. Activated Carbon, which is also known as activated charcoal or activated coal. Activated can sometimes be replaced with active.

What are the uses of activated carbon?

There are various uses of activated carbon. It can be used in gas purification, decaffeination, gold purification, oil decolorization, metal extraction, water purification, medicine, sewage treatment, vapor recovery, air filters in gas masks and respirators, filters in compressed air, cigarette filters and many other applications.

How is Activated Carbon produced?

Activated carbon is produced from carbonaceous materials such as nutshells, coconut husk, peat, wood, coir, lignite, coal, petroleum pitch and etc... It can be produced by either Physical or Chemical Activation.

Why Coconut Shell as Activated Carbon?

Using mainly qualified coconut shell as raw material, this series of activated carbon are made through physical activation. Coconut based activated carbon possess such privileges as well-developed void construction, high hardness, high activity, low impurity content, regular grain size, little resistance, easy regeneration, etc.

Coconut based activated carbon are very effective in water purification. It is widely used in decolorization and refinement of oil and sugar. Another major application of coconut based activated carbon is for indoor/outdoor air purification. Coconut based activated carbon impregnated with special materials is very effective in purifying indoor hazardous air such as ammonia, formaldehyde, etc.

Coconut based activated carbons are being increasingly used in the field of hydrometallurgy for the recovery of precious metals such as gold. The carbon granules were directly added to the cyanide pulp and moved countercurrent to it. The gold-loaded carbon was recovered by screening. The applicability of the process is further enhanced by the availability of large quantities of more suitable activated carbons with large surface areas and varied porous structures.

Other uses are inorganic and as catalysts and catalyst supports.
