The Philippines is to scuba divers what Switzerland is to skiers, Hawaii to surfers and Nepal to mountaineers: is a place you must visit at least once, to get the real heart of the sport. The country is a veritable smorgasboard of world-class dive sites set in a lush tropical environment with all the trappings you could wish for. Statistics from the Philippine Department of Tourism indicate that divers visiting the Philippines return for an average of 10 trips each which speaks volume about the quality of the dive sites and the professionalism of the operators.
Sulangan Beach, Eastern Samar
Located 24 km. from the town proper of Guiuan. Habitat of the world-famous "Golden Cowrie"; ideal site for deep fishing , scuba diving; multi-colored school of fishes is a common sight.
Kantikan Island (Pearl Island), Eastern Samar
Located in Guiuan, Eastern Samar. It is a pearl culture farm; haven of rich marine life such as lobsters, shells, fishes, abalones, corals; clear blue waters and immaculately white coral beach; perfect site for scuba diving, fishing, and swimming.
Santa Monica Caves, Eastern Samar
Located in Borongan, Eastern Samar. Has a magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean; excellent place for fishing, scuba diving, surfing, swimming.
Divinuvo Island, Eastern Samar
A 3-sq. kilometer island in Brgy. Lalawigan, Borongan. It has crystal-clear water, white beach, swaying palm trees, multi-colored fishes and corals beneath; best suited for scuba diving and swimming.
Moalboal, Cebu
About a third of the way up the west coast of Cebu is the sleepy little market town of Moalboal. About five kilometers outside the town, down a dusty track, is Panagsama Beach, which was one of the first places where scuba diving caught on in the Philippines. In the early 1980s, it was one of the most popular and highly regarded diving destinations in Asia, which led to dive resorts having sprung up all along the adjacent coast. From Moalboal, you can dive straight off Panagsama Beach. All you need to do is swim out a few meters and drop down onto a beautiful, sloping wall that descends to 35 meters. Panagsama Beach is home to an extraordinary array of coral, anemones, sponges, and a swarming host of brightly colored reef fish.
Sabang Beach, Oriental Mindoro
The beach is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. A cluster of nightspots abound in the area, which make it popular for evening socials. Cottages with entertainment facilities stand close to each other. Low-budget accommodations are available. Sabang Beach is located east of Puerto Galera. It can be reached in 15 minutes from the Puerto Galera pier by taking a jeepney or an outrigger banca.
Cataan Cove, Iloilo
Located in San Joaquin town, 60 km. southwest of Iloilo City; has beautiful marine garden; ideal for scuba diving.
Twin Rocks, Catanduanes
Splash in waters of incredible clarity beneath which lie sanctuaries of rich and colorful marine life. Its underwater coral formations offer an added adventure for spear fishing and snorkeling. Scuba diving, either as a fun-filled introduction or a recreational dive, is a very promising activity in this resort.
La Laguna Beach, Oriental Mindoro
This an ideal place for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. There are a number of resorts that offer accommodation and other travel and aqua sports facilities to both domestic and international tourists. It is located in La Laguna, Puerto Galera, and can be reached in 30 minutes from the town proper of Puerto Galera by taking a jeepney bound for La Laguna.
Small La Laguna
Contrary to its name, Small La Laguna is bigger than La Laguna, and has more facilities. It has coral reefs, and its water is ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving. There are diving equipment for rent at nearby dive shops. It is located beside Sabang Beach, and can be reached in 20 minutes from the pier by taking a jeepney bound for Sabang.
Mahaba Island (Cuatro Islas), Leyte
Located in Inopacan, Leyte, 130 km. from Tacloban City via Baybay, or 2-hour ride from Ormoc City; plus 30-minute pumpboat ride. Underwater paradise for eco-tourism; marine sanctuary; beautiful view of Camotes Sea; good for swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving; limestone formation represents fossil coral reefs and fauna. Outrigger boat service; kiosks; restroom; viewing deck; diving equipment for rent; sari-sari (variety store) SCUBA tank; dive buddy; snorkelling equipment; glass bottom boat; "baruto" for rent.
Amihan Cebu Woodlands, Leyte
Located in San Isidro and Calubian, Leyte. The coastline formation is ideal for swimming, water rides, and scuba diving. Cattles wildly roam around the fenced pasture land; coconut, forest trees, acacia trees, grasslands, shrubs, and mangroves enhance its scenic country appeal.
